Lately, it's been quite hot around here. Sometimes reaching 105 in the afternoon. Needless to say, I haven't ridden Tanna a lot. I ride early Sunday morning and am done by noon so that we're not out in the hottest part of the day. However, last Sunday morning, it was 70 degrees when we started out with 83% humidity. Sticky!! That's what one gets in August in Tennessee, though! I am fortunate that Tanna has a very good base and doesn't need much to keep him in shape for endurance rides.
A couple weeks ago, I went out to Natchez Trace and rode a nice loop with Debra, a good friend of mine. I have often seen her horse, Playboy, but this was the first time Tanna and I had the pleasure of his company on a ride. Tanna and Playboy took to each other fairly well, although, Playboy does have a bit of a competitive edge to him that made him lay back his ears when Tanna tried to pass. But then again, Playboy is used to going up front!
The weather last week was low 90s and about 40% humidity during the ride. We took a couple of water breaks and sponged the horses off. Tanna did great. It was just a 13 mile loop, but it was a good training ride and we had a great time.
